On April 30th, 2018 artist Richy Shimek released his first single, Ghosted. It’s one of those songs that I feel many people can relate to. Heck, if you’ve had a relationship that drifted away without any reason why, then this song is here to let you know, you’re not alone. Well maybe you are, literally, alone now, but you get the point. There are those of us out there who can relate.
Ghosted leads you in with a soft piano sound until the story starts to unfold. The lyrics are raw and descriptive, bringing the listener into the start of a relationship and feelings which accompany it. One of the beginning lines, ‘he grabs my heart and holds my pulse,’ hints at the song being about two boys, however the experience is relatable to everyone regardless of their gender. The beat builds up as he describes a night and the closeness they shared. Then suddenly, it’s over (the relationship, not the song).
The chorus progresses and out come very catchy lyrics, sure to become embedded in your brain, at least for the rest of the day if not longer. I cannot get the line, ‘ghosted by you, ghosted by you’ out of my head. They’re haunting me (in a good way) like a ghost (yeah, I’m pretty punny).
After the first chorus, lyrics describe feelings of worry and paranoia like it’s his fault he is being ghosted. I can relate to this completely – when I’ve had similar situations in relationships that just end, I often question why, wondering what I did as I replay memories in my head. Lack of communication can be really confusing and the song really hits on that.
I love that the lyrics are simple and to the point so the listener really gets an understanding of the relationship, as well as making it easy to relate to. As the chorus repeats, it reflects the fact that these thoughts are difficult to get rid of. While the ambient instrumentals enhance the sad, poppy vibe completing the song perfectly. The catchiness and vibe of this song would make it a perfect fit for the radio, perhaps it’ll be coming to a station near you.
Richy’s first single Ghosted is a song you don’t want to pass by. His vocals are beautiful, words are true, and the instrumentals will leave you wanting more.
