I’ve known of Elizabeth Roland for quite a few years now. We both attended the University of Wisconsin Stout, became members of a sorority and were involved in the arts there. Yet, we hardly crossed paths during this time. Now, it’s been a few years since parting ways from the University and the internet has connected us! What a wonderful thing the internet, specifically social media can be. 🙂
Elizabeth now has her own art business called Loveiz Creations, where she paints the most beautiful, abstract pieces that you can purchase for weddings, a birthday or just to spoil yourself. She’s always been a lover of art and self expression which I felt made a perfect fit for Espy Girl.
Below you’ll find a Q&A about Elizabeth and her art.
And, this post came out just in time for you to be informed that she has her first public art showing at RAW ‘Natural Born Artists.’ The showcase is called CONNECT and is 7:00pm tonight (Wednesday, August 15, 2018) at The Pourhouse in Minneapolis, MN.
Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Rochester, Minnesota! My husband (Kevin) and our little family (Sterling – cat, Marceline – cat, and Ghost – dog) are now residing in Maple Grove, Minnesota.
When did you start acting?
My very first performance was in sixth grade and I was the smallest orphan (Molly) in Annie at John Adams Middle School in Rochester, MN. I have continued acting since this first stint on stage fifteen years ago!
The best role I ever played was as Roxie Hart at University of Wisconsin – Stout University Theatre’s production of Chicago. This was my starring role and the role that truly changed my life. I have always had a love for the arts. However, this role stirred up an undying passion for performing and expression.
When did you start painting?
I have been painting throughout my entire life, as art and expression are incredibly important in my life. The first time I ever created a heartfelt gift using paint was twelve years ago for my cousin’s wedding when I recreated their invitation on a serving plate at a local “Color Me Mine.” Since then I have created painted glasses for wedding parties, historic theaters, local boutique shops.
What are your favorite styles of art?
Due to the fact that I have a love for the stage, performing arts have always been a favorite of mine. I am mesmerized by photography, I love the fact that in one split second you can capture a moment that someone will cherish forever. I am also a long time dancer, so I have loved every movie and show that has been inspired by dance! As stated before self expression is something that I hold in high regard, so I am open to all forms of art!
What sparked your interests in these art forms?
Most of my interest comes from from the things I have loved to do since I was young: act, dance (you can thank Dirty Dancing and Save The Last Dance), paint, draw. Self expression and creating something that can evoke emotion is something I cherish. Anyone being their raw and authentic selves is something I admire and find beautiful.
Who are your role models? Favorite Artist/Actor/Actress?
Robin Williams. He had been a role model of mine from an extremely young age. I have always found his roles inspiring and admired how he carried himself out in the community. After his passing and the more I learned about him the more I related to him as an individual who also lives with both depression and anxiety. His quote “You’re only given one little spark of madness, you mustn’t lose it” was not only placed on my UW-Stout graduation cap but it is a quote I choose to live up to daily.
When did you start Lovelz Creations? What do you create?
LoveIz Creations was officially finally branded in June 2018, as I had an opportunity for the first time to truly focus on my art. The first thing that I created was acrylic painted Mabel Tainter Center for the Arts Collector’s glasses and hand-painted wine glasses for La Dee Dah in Menomonie, WI. What truly was a game changer for me was a new method of painting, fluid painting. With this new type of paintings I can create effects I never thought possible! WIth this new method I am able to expand to painting on glass, canvas, wood and even metal.
Why the name Lovelz Creations?
For years I have always signed my name with a very specific heart. My trademark, if you will. “Izzy” has been my nickname since before I could remember as Elizabeth was an extremely popular name in the early 90’s as there were four in elementary school class! My uncle and cousin came up with something unique and quirky which embodied my personality and spirit even at that young age. So keeping true to my love of both self expression and authenticity LoveIz Creations seemed like the best name encompass my new endeavour.
What are some current projects you’re working on?
My latest project is 3D rose paint sculptures! I have always loved roses and have created them out of play dough, clay, even frosting however my latest challenge has been paint. I’ve discovered a way to repurpose the paint run off from the pieces to create roses! I have been adding some of these roses onto canvas to create a 3D painting and am looking into other uses for these delicate and one-of-a-kind rose paint sculptures.
I am currently preparing for the RAW: natural born artist CONNECT showcase this upcoming Wednesday in Minneapolis!
Where do you find ideas for painting etc.?
When it comes to inspiration it can be found all around me. I love to take images of nature whether it be from geysers at Yellowstone National Park to images of Sea Sediment Jasper to create pieces of art that can be customized to fit your own style!
When you’re not painting/performing, what do you do in your free time?
At this point I have been training our new 10 week old german shepherd, Ghost. He is quite a handful. I am also fortunate enough to be a brand ambassador and work from home and can focus on my passion of my art!
Who do you wish you could perform with?
ROBIN WILLIAMS! I know that is never an options however will he will always be at the top of my list. Mila Kunis has always been an individual I would LOVE to work and perform with. I have always loved her work.
How can someone purchase a piece of your artwork?
If you are looking to purchase a piece of my artwork you can go to my website: www.loveizcreations.com . At my website you will not only find the items that are available for purchase but you can also reach out to me about custom pieces and see what new projects I am working on. If there is a color combination you would like to see or piece you want created please let me know as I am always up for a challenge! My father and I built a custom canvas that was larger than me!!
Where do you see your future as an artist/performer? Hobby? Career?
I would absolutely love to integrate my passion for art with my degree of Human Development and Family Studies. Art therapy has been a topic I am exploring as I would love to continue to work with a diverse population of individuals and help them express themselves in a new way.
You can find Loveiz Creations on the world wide web or Facebook.
