Know Your Farmer: Garden Valley Farmstead & Locavore for UCP

Wisconsin is home for many farms scattered about rolling hills and green pastures. You may also think of cheese curds and beer, yep we have that too. But, have you ever thought about the farmers behind it all? They work hard, long days to provide fresh food for their communities. This summer the Chippewa Valley and beyond has been learning a bit about their farmers thanks to the Locavore Mobile Kitchen.

The Locavore Mobile Kitchen is based out of Eau Claire and serves delicious eats that should probably be in a high scale restaurant. They offer many vegetarian and gluten free options with local organic ingredients. Chef Amy makes sure to get as many ingredients from local farmers as possible.

This summer, Amy came up with the idea of showing off these local farms and getting the community engaged. Amy’s plan of course has to do with yummy food. She is hosting four course meals at farms where she gets ingredients from. This gives the farmers a chance to meet community members, show them around and tell them a little bit about their farm. There are a total of four of these events throughout the summer, which are called ‘Know Your Farmer’ (insert farm name). AND it doesn’t stop there, this amazing evening’s proceeds go to a local non-profit organization.

I was honored to photograph the third dinner which was hosted at Garden Valley Farmstead, with proceeds benefitting UCP of West Central WI. The atmosphere was beautiful, owners and attendees were so passionate, kind and welcoming. The food was mouth watering! I absolutely loved being a part of this event.

Below are moments throughout the Know Your Farmer event at Garden Valley Farmstead. Enjoy and don’t drool too much over the food. 😉
